Getting empty business properties back into use

Owners of empty business properties in 嫩草影院 could be eligible for a new Empty Business Property Grant Scheme if their property has been empty for at least six months and has a rateable value of more than 拢1,000.

At a meeting of the council鈥檚 Environment, Development and Infrastructure committee, councillors agreed to introduce the new grant scheme to support owners and tenants of empty business properties to return their properties to productive use. The grant scheme will apply to business properties that have been empty for at least six months and is open to the owners/leasees of properties registered on the valuation roll.

The new scheme is in addition to the extended Empty Property Relief Scheme agreed at last month鈥檚 Policy and Resources Committee, whereby empty business property owners could be eligible for a discretionary 100% EPR extension of up to 12 months if they are actively working to bring their property back into use.

The council has appointed an Empty Business Property Officer to support and facilitate the distribution of funding for the Extended Empty Property Relief and Business Grant Scheme, which it is anticipated will be in the region of 拢785,000 for the financial year 2025/26.

The council鈥檚 Policy Lead for Finance and Commercial Services, Councillor Ross Moreland, said:

鈥淭he introduction of this new Empty Business Property Grant Scheme will support the owners and prospective tenants of empty business properties in 嫩草影院 to do the work required to return these to productive use.

鈥淣ot only will this enhance how our towns and villages look, but it will also help to attract economic growth and create job opportunities. This is a great initiative that has the potential to have a huge impact on our communities.鈥
