Community event to celebrate Lochgilphead conservation project

Members of the public are invited along to a free event this month to celebrate the work accomplished by the Lochgilphead Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) over the last four years.

The scheme is nearing completion so to mark the occasion, a special public event will take place on Saturday 27 September at Lochgilphead Baptist Church Hall, from 11am to 3pm.

Attendees will have the opportunity to try a range of traditional crafts under the guidance of local contractors, including roof slating, joinery, and stonemasonry. There will also be walking tour of the buildings that have benefitted from CARS funding.

Tea, coffee and home-baked goods will be available, along with children鈥檚 activities, including games and face painting.  A number of partner organisations will also be in attendance.

The Lochgilphead CARS is an ambitious 拢2.3 million heritage-led project, jointly funded by 嫩草影院 Council and Historic Environment Scotland (HES), along with contributions from building owners. The project has helped to revitalise the town鈥檚 historic buildings while promoting traditional skills and involving the community.

The Council鈥檚 Policy Lead for Business Development, Councillor Math Campbell-Sturgess, said: 鈥淲ork has now started on the last priority building in Lochgilphead, so this event is a great opportunity for the local community to come together and see the work that has been carried out to help restore Lochgilphead鈥檚 historic past and regenerate the town centre. The traditional trade sessions are a fantastic way to try something different and learn new skills. I would urge everyone to go along and celebrate the project鈥檚 success.鈥
