Islay & Jura Recycling Collections - w/c 01/09/25
Due to issues with our recycling lorry we have been unable to collect the recycling in multiple areas across Islay and Jura this week. Our recycling lorry is now fixed and will commence collections of the recycling bins in all areas from Monday 8th September. If your bin is still out awaiting collection, we would advise you to bring it back in over the weekend due to the weather and present it again from Monday morning onwards. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.
General Waste, Glass and Recycling - Isle of Mull UPDATED 4th September
Due to vehicle breakdowns the following collections could not be completed.
Glass catch-up service
- 29th August Tobermory - Collection will now take place on Saturday 6th September
- 31st August Fionnphort and Iona - Collection will now take place on Sunday 7th September (weather permitting)
Mixed Recycling
- 1st September Dervaig-Calvary-Salen - further update will be provided when revised collection has been arranged
- 2nd September Fionnphort and Iona - further update will be provided when revised collection has been arranged
General Waste
- 2nd September Dervaig-Calvary-Salen - Collection will now take place on Friday 5th September

Cowal - Recycling & General waste - South Campbell Road, Innellan 04/09/25
We have been unable to collect recycling and general waste on the limited access route in South Campbell Road or Innellan today, 4th September as the vehicle that services this route is in the garage. Please leave your bins out for collection and we will endeavour to do a catch up service tomorrow, Friday 5th September.
Domestic Glass Collections - Helensburgh & surrounding areas
Glass collections that were missed in Helensburgh last week (week starting 25/08/25) will now be collected next week (week starting 08/09/25).
Glass collections due in the peninsula area (Garelochhead, Kilcreggan, Cove, Rosneath etc) will now take place week starting 22/09/25.
Collection will return to normal schedule thereafter. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Food Waste collections - Lomond w/c 01/09/25
Due to operational issues, there will be no food waste collections in Lomond this week. Collections will resume the week commencing 8th September. We apologise for any inconvenience.
EV Charging Network - Faults - 01.09.25
Electric Vehicle Charger Faults
We have some faults across our network of 37 EV chargers at the moment. We are working with our maintenance contractors to have these repaired as soon as possible.
The faults and some details are listed below. You can see the full range of publicly available chargers in ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº (not just those operated by the Council) on the .
- 53517 Tiree Ferry Terminal – Charger has come to the end of its lifespan and it is not economical to continue to try to maintain it, we are looking at the best route to replace it with new unit. Unfortunately, there are no other Council chargers at this site, but all public chargers can be found via the Charge Place Scotland website using the link above.
- 53518 Community Centre, Coll - Charger has come to the end of its lifespan and it is not economical to continue to try to maintain it, we are looking at the best route to replace it with new unit. Unfortunately, there are no other Council chargers at this site, but all public chargers can be found via the Charge Place Scotland website using the link above.
- 51510 Tweeddale Street, Oban - unit is now at end of its lifecycle and will not be repaired as we investigate replacement options. There is another charger at this location
- 51511 Craignure - DC cable faulty, we are waiting on a date for the engineer to attend, There is another charger at this location, and all other EVCs can be found via .
- 51137 Inveraray - Charger has come to the end of its lifespan and it is not economical to continue to try to maintain it, we are looking at the best route to replace it with new unit. There is an alternative charger at this location
- 51140 Lorne St Car Park Lochgilphead - charger is non operational, awaiting a date for the engineer to attend. There is an alternative charger at this location
- 51143 Fionnphort Car Park, Mull - CS cable is out of order,, awaiting a date for the engineer to attend. There is not another charger at this location, all public EVCs can be found via .
- 60104 Tobermory, Mull - Communication error, awaiting update from CPS
- 62931 Rothesay Pier - Communication Error, awaiting update from CPS
Westlands Recycling Centre, Isle of Bute
Due to site resurfacing works there will be some disruptions at Westlands Recycling Centre from Monday 18th August for up to a month.
Only essential items are to come to site during this period and vans & trailers may be restricted.
Disposal of the following items must be avoided during this time:
- scrap metal
- °Õ³Õ’s
- white goods
- plasterboard
- hazardous household wastes e.g. waste oil and paints.
Please keep such items at home until the works are complete.
Islay and Jura glass collections - 27/08/25
Due to a vehicle breakdown, the glass collections due on Wednesday 27th August on Islay and Jura will not take place. We will update the website when a rescheduled collection has been arranged. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Temporary closure - Tiree Customer Service Point
Tiree Customer Service Point will be temporarily closed from Monday 18th of August as the Service Point officer has taken up a different post within Social Care. We apologise for any inconvenience. Telephone and online services are available.

The Service Point Office at Crossapol continues to be used by Social Care and limited facilities remain there mornings only to make face to face payments and Blue Badge and cemetery/lair enquiries.
B8016 High Road closure
Argyll & Bute Council will be carrying out road repairs north of Laggan Bridge and a culvert replacement at Springbank. Weather permitting, these works are expected to take 4 weeks.
Scottish Water will be carrying out ground investigation works for their water supply system at Laggan Bridge. They are expected to return later in the year to complete their works.
Disruption to the public is being minimised by combining as much of these works as possible into a single closure period.
The road closure will commence on Monday 18th August and is expected to be in place for a minimum of 4 weeks.
Access to properties will be maintained and notices with additional information are being delivered to those affected by the local access arrangements.
Temporary closure - Bowmore disabled public toilet
Due to vandalism causing safety issues, the disabled public toilet in Bowmore, Islay has had to be closed until repairs are carried out.
